Carolina Castro is an Argentine businesswoman and union leader. She was the first woman to join the Executive Committee of the Argentine Industrial Union and was named one of the BBC’s 100 Women in 2020.


Life


Carolina Castro is an Argentine businesswoman and union representative. She was the first woman to join the Executive Committee of the Argentine Industrial Union (Unión Industrial Argentina – UIA) and was named by the BBC as one of its 100 Women of the Year in 2020.

Castro holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires. During the presidency of Mauricio Macri, she served as Undersecretary at the Ministry of Production, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises. In 2018, during the G20 summit, she worked in the area of the global business forum.

In 2019, she was elected by the Association of Argentine Component Manufacturers (AFAC) to represent the automotive sector on the Executive Committee of the UIA. She is the first woman to attain a leadership position in the UIA in its 130-year history. Her advocacy has helped drive progress toward greater gender equality in the workplace.

Castro is the third generation working in the family business, Industrias Guidi, which manufactures automotive components and supplies companies like Toyota and General Motors. The company has broken industry stereotypes by employing women in production roles at a higher rate than the national average.

She recently published Rompimos el cristal (“We Broke the Glass”), an anthology of conversations with 18 Argentine women who stand out in business, the arts, politics, and science.
