Constanza Gorleri, born in Argentina, is a lawyer and journalist who has led the Sustainability Department at Banco Galicia since 2005, the same year the area was created. In addition to her role at Galicia, she is a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Coordinating Secretary of the Sustainable Finance Committee at ADEBA, representative of Banco Galicia at UNEPF, and Secretary of the American Foundation for Education.

Gorleri studied Law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and later trained as a journalist at the Universidad Católica Argentina. Between 2012 and 2014 she served as president of the Group of Companies and Foundations, where she led nonprofit organizations. She is also part of the Argentines for Education Observatory and the Advisory Council of Enseñá por Argentina.

She is a fellow of the Kettering Foundation, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that supports democratic practices. Gorleri also has international experience after completing a program at Harvard Business School titled Aligning Sustainability with Corporate Performance.

What Is Sustainability and How Does Gorleri Define It in the Corporate Sphere?

Sustainability, as Gorleri defines it, is a broad concept that integrates multiple dimensions. It focuses on building the future without damaging the present, based on a triple impact: social, economic, and environmental. In her view, sustainability strengthens the strategic agenda of organizations, and she has pointed out that companies have become increasingly attentive to environmental issues in recent years.

In an interview with La Nación, she argued that the private sector is a highly relevant social actor capable of influencing and transforming the public agenda. She contrasted this with earlier periods, when companies tended to believe that social and environmental responsibilities rested primarily with governments.

Globalization, climate change, and shifting national contexts have pushed private-sector actors to reorganize their functions around sustainability. As head of sustainability at Banco Galicia, Gorleri has emphasized that financial institutions can support this transition through targeted financing mechanisms. In this context, she frequently refers to the concept of “sustainable finance.”

Gorleri’s Role at Banco Galicia and the Emphasis on Education

From the beginning of her career, Gorleri has shown a sustained interest in education and the training of future generations. In a program aired by Infobae, she stated that her objective is to create real opportunities for young people from vulnerable backgrounds to access and complete higher education. She supported this position with data indicating that fewer than 10 percent of young people reach university level.

She combines this educational focus with the financial capabilities of Banco Galicia, promoting investment and collaboration in programs that strengthen educational and financial literacy. Gorleri has stressed that education is a key lever for transforming Argentina’s social reality, noting that only a small proportion of students who begin university studies actually complete them.

In response, Banco Galicia launched a scholarship program aimed at students enrolled in the CBC, the initial cycle of the University of Buenos Aires. Through this initiative, students receive financial support to pursue their academic goals. The bank also promotes programs for secondary-school students in their final years, offering early exposure to the world of work.

As sustainability manager, Gorleri played a central role in positioning Banco Galicia as a founding member of the Argentines for Education initiative, reinforcing the institution’s long-term commitment to educational development.

Social Responsibility and a Look Back

More than a decade ago, Gorleri received the Perfil Award in the category of Social Responsibility, recognizing her early impact in the field. The award ceremony took place in 2015, highlighting her work in the training and support of entrepreneurs. Since 2005, she has consistently embedded sustainability as a core concept within Banco Galicia.

At the time of receiving the award, she reflected that sustainability had once been a largely unfamiliar topic for companies. Over the years, that situation changed significantly, with firms increasingly prioritizing social, economic, and environmental initiatives. She also noted that corporate responsibility had long been an unresolved issue within the business sector.

Married and the mother of two daughters, Constanza Gorleri combines her professional roles as journalist and lawyer with a sustained focus on education and future generations. Her work consistently aligns with her definition of sustainability: an approach rooted in present-day action, structured around triple impact, and oriented toward long-term societal transformation.
