Horacio Rodríguez Larreta is an Argentine politician and lawyer, nationally recognized for serving as the current Chief of Government of the City of Buenos Aires since December 9, 2015. This position was previously held by the current President of the Nation, Mauricio Macri.
From an early age, he was strongly influenced by politics through his father, from whom he inherited his vocation. With extensive experience both in Argentina and the United States, his performance has been acknowledged and awarded as an example of dedication to national sovereignty.
An example of this is the recent recognition granted by the Konex Foundation, naming him one of the most important Argentine administrators of the last decade.
Horacio Rodríguez Larreta: Birth and beginning of his national political career
The son of petrochemical businessman Horacio Larreta, who was also president of the Integration and Development Movement (MID), he was born on October 29, 1965. He graduated from the Argentine Model School in 1983 and completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of Buenos Aires in 1988.
Despite his clear political inclination, Rodríguez Larreta began his professional path working for the U.S. oil company Esso and furthered his education by completing a master’s degree at Harvard University.
In 1993, he returned to Argentina and began his political career by holding positions such as Undersecretary of Investments at the Ministry of Economy and vice president of the political party Unidos para el Cambio.
The 2000s and his political alliance with Mauricio Macri
With the turn of the millennium, his political ties with Mauricio Macri became increasingly evident. Their close collaboration led him to serve as Chief of Cabinet of the City of Buenos Aires starting in 2007, a position he held until stepping down on December 10, 2015.
In recent years, his most notable works have gained attention. Among them is his debut proposal from 1996, Technology and Competitiveness in Mercosur, and his more recent works How to Overcome the Social Default and The Country We Want, both of which reveal a pragmatic and socially engaged side of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.
