Kushal Pal Singh Tewathia

Kushal Pal Singh Tewathia, also known as K.P. Singh (born November 5, 1931, India), is a prominent real estate developer and the Chairman and CEO of DLF Limited, a property development company founded by his father-in-law, Thakur Raghvendra Singh. DLF owns an estimated land bank of 10,255 acres (42 km²), with around 3,000 acres (12 km²) located in Gurugram, often referred to as “DLF City.” Singh’s personal wealth is estimated at $2.5 billion. His autobiography, titled Whatever the Odds: The Incredible Story Behind DLF, was released in 2011, with Jack Welch speaking at the launch event.

K.P. Singh was born on November 15, 1931, in Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh, into a Jat family. His father, Chaudhary Mukhtar Singh, was a renowned lawyer in Bulandshahr. After earning a science degree from Meerut College in Uttar Pradesh, Singh pursued Aeronautical Engineering in the United Kingdom. He was later selected to join the Indian Army by the British Services Selection Board in the UK. In 1960, he joined Universal American Electric Company. After the company’s merger with DLF Limited in 1979, he was appointed Managing Director alongside Chaudhary Raghvendra Singh.

Kushal Pal Singh led the construction of numerous earthquake-resistant office buildings, residential apartments, malls, and leisure complexes in Gurgaon. Under his leadership as Chairman of DLF, the company launched an initial public offering (IPO) in 2007, raising approximately $2.24 billion—one of the largest IPOs in India at the time. The company’s market capitalization rose to $24.5 billion, making Singh and his family one of the wealthiest clans in the world. In an interview, Jack Welch, former Chairman and CEO of General Electric, acknowledged Singh as one of the key figures behind GE’s entry into India.
