Mark Elliot Zuckerberg

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (born May 14, 1984) is an American programmer, Internet entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the president, CEO, and co-founder of the social network Facebook. His net worth was estimated at $51.2 billion as of June 2016, making him the sixth richest person in the world.

Together with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, Zuckerberg launched Facebook from Harvard’s dorm rooms, and the group later introduced Facebook to other campuses. Facebook quickly expanded, reaching one billion users in 2012. Zuckerberg was involved in several legal disputes initiated by other group members who claimed a share of the company based on their involvement in Facebook’s early development.

In December 2012, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan announced they would give away the majority of their wealth during their lifetimes to “advance human potential and promote equality” in the spirit of giving. On December 1, 2015, they announced they would donate 99% of their Facebook shares (worth about $45 billion at the time) to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Since 2010, Time magazine has named Zuckerberg among the 100 wealthiest and most influential people in the world, with the distinction of Person of the Year.
