Sundar Pichai, ceo of google and tech industry leader

Pichai Sundararajan (born July 12, 1972), known professionally as Sundar Pichai, is an Indian-American business executive.

Pichai is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google Inc. He previously served as Google’s Head of Product. His current role was announced on August 10, 2015, as part of the corporate restructuring that led to the formation of Alphabet Inc. as Google’s parent company. He officially assumed the position on October 2, 2015.

Pichai was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, into a Tamil Brahmin family to Lakshmi and Regunatha Pichai. He spent his early years in Madras (now Chennai). His father was a senior electrical engineer at General Electric and managed a factory that produced electrical components. Sundar was raised in a modest two-room apartment on 46th Street, 7th Avenue, in Ashok Nagar, Chennai.

He completed his Class X at Jawahar Vidyalaya, Ashok Nagar, Chennai, and Class XII at Vana Vani School, located on the campus of IIT Chennai. Pichai earned his undergraduate degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur. He holds an MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar, respectively.
