
Ricardo Lorenzetti is an Argentine lawyer who has served as President of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation for over a decade. His leadership in the highest court began after being appointed as a justice (minister) in 2004, and he formally assumed the presidency of the court on January 1, 2007.

Born on September 19, 1955, in Rafaela, Santa Fe, Ricardo Lorenzetti showed a strong inclination toward the humanities and legal studies from an early age. He earned his law degree from the National University of the Litoral, graduating on December 22, 1983. Supreme Court tenure and institutional contributions
Since becoming President of the Supreme Court in 2007, Lorenzetti has initiated multiple reforms with a focus on transparency, judicial efficiency, and international cooperation. Notably, he led the establishment of the Judicial Information Center (Centro de Información Judicial – CIJ) and the National Commission on Court Management. These initiatives were designed to enhance communication between the court and the public, and to align Argentina’s judiciary with international standards. Ricardo Lorenzetti is also a distinguished legal scholar and author. His first book, Responsabilidad civil del médico (Civil Liability of the Physician), was published in 1986. Since then, he has authored numerous works addressing civil law, constitutional principles, and collective justice. His most recent major publication, Justicia Colectiva (Collective Justice), appeared in 2017 and analyzes the role of the judiciary in representing public interest and collective rights.
Beyond his work as a judge and author, Lorenzetti is a frequent international speaker and academic lecturer. He has received numerous honors from prestigious institutions including the University of Buenos Aires, the National University of Cuyo, and the National University of La Plata. His international recognitions include distinctions from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Catholic University of Chile, and the European University Institute in Florence.
