
Lisa Su is a Taiwanese-born American business executive. She is the President and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). She was appointed President and CEO in October 2014, having previously served as Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Corporate Director at AMD.
Before joining AMD, Su held engineering and management positions at Texas Instruments, IBM, and Freescale Semiconductor.
Born in Tainan, Taiwan, she emigrated to the United States with her parents at the age of 3. She holds a bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In 1994, Su was a technical staff member at Texas Instruments in the Semiconductor Process and Device Center (SPDC).
From 1995 to 2007, she worked at IBM in both engineering and business management roles, including serving as Vice President of the Semiconductor Research and Development Center. In that role, she was responsible for IBM’s strategic direction in semiconductor technologies, joint development partnerships, and R&D operations.
Su joined Freescale Semiconductor in 2007 as Chief Technology Officer, leading the company’s technology and R&D initiatives. As of September 2008, she became Senior Vice President and General Manager of Freescale’s Networking and Multimedia Group, overseeing global strategy, marketing, and engineering for the company’s communications processors and embedded applications business.
Su joined AMD as Senior Vice President and Corporate Director in January 2012, and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in June 2014. She was named President and CEO in October 2014, replacing Rory Read.
In 2014, she was named “Executive of the Year” by EE Times and later received recognition at the ACE Awards at the end of the year.
