Doug McMillon (born Carl Douglas McMillon on October 17, 1966) is an American businessman and the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. He first joined the company as a summer associate in high school and eventually became the fifth CEO of the company in 2014. He previously led the company’s Sam’s Club division from 2005 to 2009 and Walmart International from 2009 to 2013.

As a teenager, McMillon began his first job with Walmart as a summer employee. He worked unloading trucks at a distribution center. After high school, McMillon attended the University of Arkansas, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1989. The following year, while pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Tulsa, McMillon called Walmart and told an executive that he was interested in buyer training after completing his studies. Shortly after, McMillon joined Walmart as an assistant manager at a store in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After completing his MBA in 1991, he moved to Walmart’s headquarters in Bentonville to join the buyer training program. He was initially in charge of purchasing fishing tackle and later took on various roles as a buyer and merchant in areas such as food, clothing, crafts, and furniture. He later worked as general merchandise manager for Walmart’s wholesale division before assuming an executive role at Walmart, overseeing toys, electronics, and sporting goods, among other areas.
