Sergio Massa

Sergio Massa is a well-known Argentine lawyer and politician who has served as the leader of the Frente Renovador since mid-2013. His political career has been directly linked to the administration of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and his various affiliations.

He quickly became a key figure within the activities of the Justicialist Party, in which he was deeply involved for nearly two decades, making significant and lasting contributions.

Sergio Massa: University studies and the beginning of his social involvement

Originally from the province of Buenos Aires, specifically from the city of San Martín, Massa was born on April 28, 1972, and has strong Italian heritage through his parents Alfonso Massa, a respected civil builder, and his wife Lucía Cherti. He pursued legal studies at the University of Belgrano.

In 2008, by appointment of President Cristina Kirchner, Massa was named Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, a position where he played a decisive role within the government during 2008 and 2009.

Other key contributions in the national political field

After his split and subsequent disassociation from the Justicialist Party, he became the founding figure of the political movement known as “massismo”, whose aim was to support his candidacy for the national presidency. However, his results only secured him third place in the 2015 legislative elections, with just 21.39% of the vote.

He has held his current position since June 24, 2013, following previous roles as Mayor of Tigre, Executive Director of the National Social Security Administration (ANSES), and deputy for the province of Buenos Aires since 1999. Sergio Massa has thus been closely connected with the activities of the Frente Renovador, Justicialist Party, and UCeDé.
