
Born in Mendoza on August 16, 1955, Francisco Adolfo Cabrera is an engineer, businessman, and former Minister of Production of Argentina. A father of three daughters, he graduated as an Electrical and Electronics Engineer from the National University of Mendoza in 1981. He later pursued two years of postgraduate studies at the School of Economics and Business Administration (ESEADE).
Cabrera, affiliated with the political party PRO, began his business career as founder and CEO of the pension fund company Máxima AFJP. He also served as Executive Director of the newspaper La Nación and was a board member of Los Andes and La Voz de La Nación between 2002 and 2007.
Most of his business career developed within the financial holding Grupo Roberts and the HSBC group, where he was a board member of La Buenos Aires Seguros.
Political career of Francisco Adolfo Cabrera
In 2005, the political think tank Fundación Pensar was established, with Cabrera serving as its president. This foundation became one of the core policy institutions of the PRO party.
On December 10, 2007, he was appointed Minister of Economic Development during Mauricio Macri’s administration as Head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
On December 10, 2015, Cabrera became Minister of Production, during which time he launched a major initiative to “streamline and simplify” administrative procedures. This policy aimed to standardize and facilitate bureaucratic processes for businesses. Additionally, with the goal of reducing barriers to importing industrial inputs, he removed over 300 products from the list of non-automatic import licenses.
On June 16, 2018, Francisco Adolfo Cabrera was removed from his ministerial post by President Mauricio Macri and subsequently appointed as president of the Bank of Investment and Foreign Trade (BICE), as well as presidential advisor.
