
Marcos Peña is an Argentine politician and political scientist, currently serving as Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers under President Mauricio Macri. He was appointed to this position by President Macri in December 2015, after managing his presidential campaign.
Early life and education
Marcos Peña was born on March 15, 1977, in Buenos Aires. He completed part of his primary education in the United States, where his parents were living at the time. He later returned to Argentina, where he finished high school and earned a degree in Political Science from Torcuato Di Tella University.
Political career of Marcos Peña
At the age of 26, he was elected Deputy in the Buenos Aires City Legislature, serving from 2003 to 2007 for the Compromiso para el Cambio party, which later became Propuesta Republicana, commonly known as PRO. Marcos Peña is one of the founders and leaders of PRO and a member of its National Council.
In 2005, Peña headed the PRO list and renewed his mandate. Until 2007, he chaired the legislature’s Committee on Education, Science, and Technology.
In 2007, Marcos Peña resigned from his legislative seat to join Mauricio Macri as Secretary General of the Buenos Aires City Government. There, he was also in charge of the city’s communications. He held this position until 2015, when Macri was elected President and appointed him Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers.

As Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, his responsibilities include managing the country’s general administration, appointing public administration employees, collecting national revenues, among other duties.
Personal life
Marcos Peña is married to journalist Luciana Mantero. The couple has two children.
In another field, Marcos Peña co-edited a book with Alejandro Rozitchner titled Estamos: Una invitación abierta—a collection of stories featuring testimonies from PRO leaders, officials, and activists. Contributors include Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, María Eugenia Vidal, Gabriela Michetti, Diego Santilli, and others.
