Juan Sutil Servoin

Juan Sutil Servoin is a Chilean businessman and politician who was born on October 1, 1961 (61 years old). Among the highlights of his political and business career, he founded the company “Empresas Sutil” several years ago, which remains successful, and most recently served as President of the CPC (Confederation of Production and Commerce). Sutil Servoin is a man who, throughout his career, has sought to serve Chile, either through his company in the agricultural sector or in politics, which has roots in his father.

Beginnings of Juan Sutil Servoin

Juan Sutil, his father, was a member of a political party for several years and Mayor of another region. In the 1980s, before founding Empresas Sutil and when his son was about 20 years old, they had several hectares where they worked in agriculture.

Unlike many businessmen, Juan Sutil did not pursue studies after high school. He did not go to university because his entry into agriculture was sudden.

The National Agricultural Society is where Sutil Jr. started, and that was the beginning of his career. In 1982, Empresas Sutil was officially founded, working in the agricultural sector and immediately becoming one of the largest berry exporters.

Later, he incorporated a partner and began to lead the berry market. Then, within the same company, another business emerged dedicated to exporting nuts such as walnuts and almonds, which brought great success.

An agricultural cooperative that led the sector caught the attention of Empresas Sutil, which quickly entered that space. By the late 1990s, Juan Sutil had made a name for himself in the company and began making his own decisions.

Juan Sutil’s Actions in the Family Company

Empresas Sutil had so much success in agriculture and fruit exportation that Juan Sutil decided to enter the wine industry. In 2002, he founded “Viña Sutil,” a name adopted years later, also known as “Top Wine Group.”

This was one of the first major actions of “Juanito,” as he was affectionately called. Although the main operations were elsewhere, in another region of Chile, he already had other wine investments.

A project he led that ultimately did not succeed was the “Hydraulic Highway.” This project generated controversy, with both supporters and opponents. Its goal was to bring water to agricultural areas and span several kilometers.

Regarding climate change, it is true that Chile suffers from severe droughts or heavy rainfall, with a highly irregular situation.

Over the years, when Empresas Sutil was fully focused on the agricultural sector, in 2015 he decided to return, inspired by another company, to exporting frozen berries and other vegetables.

One of Sutil’s boldest decisions was to distance himself from the media due to alleged bad publicity involving Empresas Sutil. He personally confirmed this.

The B-Side of Juan Sutil

Juan Sutil Servoin’s political side took off in 2020. Since the start of the pandemic, the Chilean remained loyal to his beliefs, which led to his appointment as President of the CPC.

At that time, Chile, Empresas Sutil, and society in general faced turbulent times—not only because of the pandemic affecting all countries but also due to the social revolts in Chile.

Regardless of political party, outsiders have always described Juan Sutil as a person open to dialogue and able to converse without being extremist. He was deeply involved in legal reforms in the country and in assisting people during the pandemic by importing hospital resources from China.

His presidency at the CPC ended late last year after three hectic years, concluding with widespread praise. The Chilean can claim success both in politics and business.

Empresas Sutil has recently restructured. Top Wine Group was divided, and a second company emerged to support agriculture and fruit sectors, which have always been profitable.

Finally, Juan Sutil Servoin continues to lead Empresas Sutil as the family head, with a sort of conglomerate emerging from within the same company.
