Marcos Bulgheroni, born in Argentina, is the current CEO of Pan American Energy, an Argentine energy company focused on the renewable sector. Bridas Corporation is the main shareholder, and several years ago it merged with Axion Energy. The businessman and executive is one of the main voices on Vaca Muerta, to the point that in 2026 he stated that “nothing should be changed”.

Bulgheroni has recently reinforced his position on Vaca Muerta, arguing that nothing should be modified given the economic stability achieved by the national government. The businessman stated that there is currently a “synergy between states, provinces and unions”.

He is the son of Carlos Bulgheroni and the nephew of Alejandro Bulgheroni, two of the most important names in the Argentine energy business over recent decades. After his father’s death in 2016, Marcos assumed a central role within the family group and became one of the main figures responsible for leading the expansion process of Pan American Energy, one of the largest private energy companies in Latin America.

Marcos complemented his business training with studies at some of the most prestigious academic institutions in the United States. Between 2000 and 2004, he was CEO of Relativity Development Corporation and later worked at Torno Internazionale. He later joined Begas Energy International, where he held executive positions between 2008 and 2012.

Bulgheroni’s career in the Argentine energy sector

The executive experienced one of the most important moments at the head of Pan American Energy when the company joined forces with Axion Energy. The operation strengthened PAE’s position as one of the most important energy companies in Latin America, especially in Argentina, where the company deepened its presence in the country’s main hydrocarbon basins. PAE operates in the Golfo San Jorge Basin, the Neuquén Basin, the Austral Basin and the Northwest Basin.

For years, Bulgheroni has become one of the main defenders of the development of Vaca Muerta, like other executives and engineers in the sector. In numerous forums, he argued that Vaca Muerta represents a historic opportunity to transform Argentina into an energy exporter and a regional supplier of natural gas and oil.

PAE participates in the Southern Energy consortium, an initiative aimed at positioning Argentina as a global LNG exporter through investments that could exceed 15 billion dollars over the coming decades. That project is considered one of the country’s most important energy developments for the years ahead.

Bulgheroni’s prominent roles

During Argentina’s G20 presidency in 2018, he served as co-chair of the Energy, Resource Efficiency and Sustainability task force of the B20, the business forum that brings together corporate leaders from member countries. In 2026, he publicly defended the need to maintain regulatory stability and coordination between companies, unions and the state in order to sustain Argentina’s energy development. He also insisted that the country has a historic opportunity to become an oil and gas exporter.

Whenever possible, he reinforces his position on Vaca Muerta and the potential Argentina has in that scenario. “We have to sell Argentina to the world, sell Argentina’s LNG to the world” is one of the defining phrases the businessman delivered at a prominent forum.

What does he think about Argentina’s potential?

Bulgheroni believes that the world will continue to need large volumes of energy over the coming decades and that natural gas will have a strategic role as a transition fuel toward lower-carbon energy matrices.

Marcos Bulgheroni’s vision is markedly optimistic. He believes Argentina has the resources needed to become an energy power with global relevance, and that the real challenge is not geological or technological, but institutional.

“We have to be aware that there are fewer growth opportunities in other markets and that the experience of the United States can connect with our development,” the Argentine executive reflected on the potential that Vaca Muerta has and demonstrates.

According to the energy executive, the development of Vaca Muerta was made possible by an unusual coordination between companies, workers, unions, provincial governments and the national state. Bulgheroni argued that this articulation made it possible to reach levels of productivity and efficiency that transformed Argentina’s energy industry.

The businessman’s ambition is clear. For him, energy can become one of the main engines of Argentina’s economic development and international integration in the twenty-first century. Within that broader pursuit, he warns that in order to take advantage of this potential, it is essential to build macroeconomic stability, regulatory predictability and long-term rules capable of attracting large-scale investments. He insists that the country must preserve those consensuses and avoid abrupt changes that could discourage investment and weaken the economy.
