
Juan Manuel Urtubey is an Argentine lawyer, politician, and professor. In 2007, at just 37 years old, he was elected governor of the Argentine province of Salta, and was re-elected consecutively in 2011 and 2015.
Early life and education
He was born in Salta on September 6, 1969. From a very young age, he began his political activism in the Justicialist Party of Argentina in his home province, where he completed his primary and secondary studies.
In 1993, Juan Manuel Urtubey earned his law degree from the University of Buenos Aires. It is worth noting that he completed his degree in just three years, while also remaining active in political work with the Justicialist Party.
Political activity
After graduating, he returned to Salta Province, where he practiced law and continued his political career. In 1995, he was appointed Secretary of State for Government of Salta, and in 1996, he was named General Coordinator of the Family Ownership Program.
In 1997, he was appointed Government Spokesperson of Salta and, that same year, was elected provincial deputy. In 1999, he was elected National Deputy representing Salta Province.
In 2003, he ran for re-election and won another term. During this second term, Juan Manuel Urtubey was appointed by his peers as President of the Committee on Institutional Affairs.

In 2007, he ran as a candidate for governor of Salta Province in a modest campaign without significant backing from major political structures and was elected. In 2011, he ran for re-election and won again, and in 2015, he was elected for a third consecutive term.
His administration was characterized by investment in education and health, environmental protection, and sustainable economic development, along with the promotion of public works projects aimed at benefiting the majority of the people of Salta.
